Narrow FOV, doesn't highlight deer.

I've installed my NV300 Max and spent some time in Northeast PA, AKA Deer Country. I've encountered maybe 20 deer since installing the unit. At least 10 of them were outside the Field of View and were not picked up at all by the unit. The other 10 were picked up as white bodies, but the "Fushion Mode" (please hire me as your spell checker before you release a product to an English-speaking market) did not display the deer in the bright orange and red colors it uses to distinguish humans. 100% of the reason I bought this camera was because I thought it would be intelligent enough to highlight deer in red & orange, but so far it has failed to do so. I hope there can be a software update to heighten sensitivity and display deer in false colors. I also hope there can be some sort of replacement lens available to widen the extremely narrow FOV. At this time, the FOV is only good for identifying obstacles which are directly in the roadway, not standing alongside it, and the AI "Fushion Mode" is not intelligent enough to display live deer in the orange and red colors.

I paid USD $399 for this unit via Kickstarter and although it is a neat gimmick, the FOV and ineffective highlighting of deer have made me regret the purchase. It looks like the retail is now USD $699 and I would be extremely disappointed if I had spent that much for this unit, considering its shortcomings.

Its cool but the FOV is not

I have both the NV300max and the much much smaller, Robofinity Insight Drive (similar features, similar price). The NV300 Max has more features but the FOV is basically half of what the Insight Drive has. The normal vision camera of the NV300 max has like a 4x bigger FOV. If the thermal portion was at least half that, id be happy. But instead the thermal FOV feels like you are zoomed in on just the one lane in front of you, 2 blocks down the road. I hope they can come out with a corrective lens attachment like a fish eye filter to fix the lack of FOV in the future, or just bake it in the camera for the amount of money they charge.

Android App Missing and Carwash Concerns

I received my NV300 Max (via the Kickstarter Campaign) just a week or so ago. I ran the wires and set up the interior monitor and so far I really like what I can see with it!
However: There doesn't appear to actually be an Android Play Store app for it, though the paperwork that came with it suggests that there is. Maybe it was removed... or is still coming? I hope so. I currently can't seem to get the display to change to MPH instead of KPH when paired with my OBDII meter.
Also, I went through a carwash with my new camera securely mounted to the top of my Subaru Outback, expecting the IP69K protection to be able to handle a car wash. Evidently not so much. The dual camera lens cover popped right off and suffered a chip on the lens from hitting the ground before the attendants were able, surprisingly, to find it for me. I don't know yet if the camera internals are suffering from the lens cover pop off and water potentially getting inside yet, but I have temporarily used Hot Glue to hold the scratched cover back on the camera. Not very pretty, especially with the scratch/chipped lens, but we'll see tomorrow if the camera is operating as it should. I've also sent an email to Thermal Master asking for help and recommendations. Obviously, I can't take the camera off before going through a car wash; it's taped down and the cord it secured. Does this mean I can't go through a car wash with this on my roof? In Chicago, we need to keep the cars clean regularly and a monthly car wash membership is really important.
I'm very hopeful that I can keep this awesome camera on my car AND be able to go through carwashes. Maybe I'll have to create some kind of protective cover that I can put over it before I go through a carwash that can withstand the pressure washers and foam wheels better. I really hope they reach out to me.

8K Miles Later

In February, I purchased the NV2 Then took a trip to Phoenix from Indianapolis. I had the 2 mounted at license plate hight then moved it up as high as I could within the grill. For months, I felt it needed to be higher, but never got around to 3-D printing a holder for the camera. At The end of November I purchased the NV3 because I really liked the improved mounting options and I stuck it right above the windshield and then drove to Tucson. Having the camera up high makes such a difference. It also recognizes things about 2/10 of a mile in the distance. At one point I was driving through Texas with complete darkness everywhere and the NV3 could easily see, the wind turbines off in the distance that I had no idea even existed. The only problem that I’ve run into and it has happened to both of them is that after many many miles it seems like now they have lost their fine detail on their image. Not sure what to do about it, but I’m going to keep trying to figure something out.

FINGERS CROSSED

I was about to buy one from another start up company on indigogo but they didn't have the dual dash cam and thermal. Living in the deep south this is a must have at nights. Especially during deer season
