Hard to believe a $119 thermal can look this good. TM must have some real engineers who actually design their own stuff instead of just slapping parts together. That’s probably why they can sell it for that price and still make something that works damn well.
I’d only used thermal on a cheap rugged phone before, and it was just okay. I couldn’t afford the pricey ones.
The P1 is under a hundred bucks, and since the reviews looked good, I figured I’d give it a try.
As a truck driver it’s made brake checks a lot easier. I roll in, plug it in, walk all around the rig, and if one brake shows up colder or hotter, I know which one needs adjusting.
That’s just one of many things I use it for. For guys without much budget, this is a good tool. Thermal Master made something that people who actually need thermal can afford.
Had a Flir One Pro for work but the battery life was awful. It’d die in the middle of a job. Picked up the P1 for under a hundred and it runs off my phone so I don’t worry about charging. Honestly the image is close enough for what I do.
I own a Flir E4 at work, good camera but bulky as hell. Picked up the P1 for personal use, mainly to check insulation at home. Compared both on the same wall, and honestly the P1 didn’t fall that far behind. I could see the same cold streaks, maybe a little less contrast but still clear enough. The E4 costs over a grand, the P1 was 99. That’s an easy choice.
